Vinny’s Vision

Vinny Bruno was a force of compassion, dedication, and unwavering belief in the power of recovery. He came to The Million Mile Project as a volunteer, simply wanting to help, but his impact was so much greater than any title could ever define. Over 2.5 years, he grew into a part-time role, then full-time, eventually becoming the Director of Outreach. He was the boots on the ground, the bridge between programs, and the reason so many struggling individuals found not just hope, but a real chance at a new life. His number one goal was to help others experience a life in recovery filled with purpose that he too had found—and that’s exactly what he did.

Vinny was not only a leader but also an incredible teammate.

Vinny had a way of bringing out the best in those around him, challenging them to dream big while remaining present, and to never lose sight of the mission. His ability to connect with people, build meaningful relationships, and push forward through any challenge made him an irreplaceable part of the team. He played a key role in expanding The Million Mile Project’s reach and impact, forming partnerships that continue to serve the recovery community today.

Beyond his work, Vinny lived with integrity and led by example. Whether he was leading a meeting, serving someone in need, working out, eating healthy, tending to his yard, or cooking a great meal, he put the same care and passion into everything he did. He adored his dog, Macy, and his cat, Milo, and he carried that same love into every connection he made. His presence had a way of making those around him want to be better—not because he asked it of them, but because he embodied it himself. He lived by the code of “love and tolerance,” always meeting people where they were, always offering a hand to those who had lost their way.

Vinny’s legacy is one of service, strength, and heart. He gifted hope to the hopeless, and his impact will continue to ripple through every life he touched. Though he is deeply missed, his vision and dedication live on in everything The Million Mile Project continues to do. He is still part of our MMP team- now guiding us from above.

Vinny’s 7 Core Values

  1. Integrity
  2. Compassion
  3. Service
  4. Perseverance
  5. Humility
  6. Brotherhood
  7. Love & Tolerance

For Vinny, these weren’t just his core values—they were what he strived to exemplify every day. His commitment to love and tolerance was the code he lived by—embracing self-love, accepting others without judgment, and treating everyone with respect, patience, and kindness, no matter their past.

These values continue to shape The Million Mile Project and everyone who had the privilege of knowing Vinny.

Essentials Bags

Essentials Bags were Vinny’s idea, born from his own experience and from witnessing others arrive at treatment with nothing but the clothes on their backs. He knew firsthand how overwhelming that moment could be and believed that providing the first steps to self-care could offer a glimmer of hope when hope felt out of reach. These bags include essential toiletries, socks, and a handwritten card from The Million Mile Project, reminding each recipient that they matter, are supported, and not alone on this journey.
More than just toiletries, the Essentials Bags serve as a symbol of encouragement, showing that MMP stands behind them—not just in treatment, but beyond—ready to continue guiding and supporting them as they build a new life in recovery.
